Bernie Sanders Supporters Will Rally Saturday in Butte

berniesanders.com

Supporters of Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders say the race for the Democratic nomination is not over. With one month to go before Montana’s primary election, they’ve scheduled a training session and rallySaturday in Butte.

Margot Kidder of Livingston is one of the organizers. She says Butte was selected because of its deep roots in this country’s labor union movement.

“It’s very significant,” she says. “It’s a working man’s town. And that’s who Bernie stands for. Not the rich.”

The event starts at the Grand Hotel, 124 West Broadway in Butte, at 11 a.m. It will conclude with a rally in uptown Butte followed by a “Have a Beer for Bernie” at the Silver Dollar Saloon.

Kidder says she will lead a session on how to become a state and national delegate.  Representatives of the Sanders campaign will talk about how to canvass and volunteers will go door-to-door in Butte. Kidder says this campaign is not over despite remarks from some political pundits that Hillary Clinton will be the nominee.

“That’s the mainstream media,” she says. “It’s nonsense. Bernie has pledged to fight for the last vote. We are with California on that last day.”

Montana’s primary election is June 7, 2016.

Kidder hopes the event will be a launching point to take the campaign’s grassroots message across Montana.
