Fund Raising Past the Operating Budget Need

Why do we raise funds in excess of the "minimum goal"? The answer lies in two distinct needs at YPR. One is our operating budget--the "nuts and bolts" funds YPR needs to maintain our regular operations. The other need we attempt to satisfy through our ability to fund raise past that stated operating budget need is a "special projects" budget: legacy upgrades to long-term equipment, software upgrades, and so on.

OUR CURRENT SPECIAL PROJECTS LIST

PROJECT: Upgrade Mammoth/Gardiner 104.9FM
ESTIMATED COST: $7,000
Located on Bunsen Peak, our translator at 104.9FM needs a total overhaul: updating equipment, adding a better weather-proofing component, and ensuring the best signal into Yellowstone National Park.

PROJECT: John W. Fisher Studio Overhaul
ESTIMATED COST: $15,000
The John W. Fisher Studio in the Bozeman Public Library requires all-new digital equipment, including a master control board, audio editing software, hard-drive space and networking capabilities, and new studio furniture.

PROJECT: Upgrade "Production B"
ESTIMATED COST: $15,000
YPR's main studio space in Billings requires multiple workstations for audio editing and production. A set of four workstations complete with digital workstations, audio editing software suites, phone interview capabilities, and computer network connectivity will allow YPR to work with more community programmers and provide a greater degree of flexibility for our current programmers and production staff.

Past Projects

Over the last two years, we've been able to complete a project that would have taken three or four years to complete if we had to budget for it within our annual operating budget. ALL because of fund raising we've been able to do beyond our stated "minimum goal" during our on-air fund raising.

Here's a look: this project completely updated our broadcast operations equipment in our control room and cost more than $48,000 to complete.
