Elementary school students in Whitefish may get a new school building if voters in the district approve to fund a bond initiative next October.

The Whitefish School District Board of Trustees unanimously approved the bond initiative of $26.5 million-dollars earlier this week.

The University of Montana will be presenting its voluntary early retirement plan to eligible faculty Friday.

UM President Sheila Stearns says early retirement will be offered, “exclusively to a subset of full-time tenured faculty at the university’s main campus and Missoula College.”

Two members of the Montana Board of Regents were at MSU-Billings Wednesday, May 10, 2017, to hear from faculty, staff and students on how to keep higher education affordable and accessible.

The regents are scheduled to meet later this month to set tuition and fees for the coming two years.

It’s a short school week for students at a Helena middle school that was damaged by a fire Monday afternoon.

Classes were canceled today at C.R. Anderson Middle School and won’t resume until Thursday at the earliest.

The ACLU Montana is investigating a human rights complaint at Montana State University-Northern in Havre. The Sweetgrass Society, a Native American student group, says there’s a deeper issue on campus—and it's been going on for months.

The University of Montana this week unveiled the first draft of its new, long-range strategic vision.

The plan is designed to show how UM distinguishes itself from other regional and national campuses. It does that in a number of ways, including reexamining its core curriculum and its relationships with faculty, staff and students.

 Montana State University-Billings is inviting their students and the public to learn more about what it’s like to be hungry.  

It is a Hunger Banquet.  It is a component of the campus’ “Power of One” activities, part of Martin Luther King Jr. service week.

University of Montana’s longest serving president, George Dennison, died today at age 81.

Dennison retired from the university in 2010 after serving as president for 20 years — the longest tenure of any UM president.

University of Montana Western

University of Montana President Royce Engstrom will step down effective December 31, 2016. The announcement came from Commissioner of Higher Education Clayton Christian.

The office also announced former Commissioner of Higher Education Sheila Sterns will serve as interim president until a national search for a replacement is completed.

MSUB University Relations

Mark Nook, chancellor at MSU Billings, was named today as the third finalist for the president’s position at the University of Northern Iowa.

Nook is scheduled to deliver a presentation during a public forum tomorrow afternoon on campus. All presentations will have live video streaming and a recording will be made available for later viewing.
