Come to This House of Books at 5:30 on Friday, April 26 to meet Montana author Allen Morris Jones. He will present his latest book, Sweeney on the Rocks, which has been described as a “smashing crime novel, adding to his perfectly pitched comic voice with nicely drawn characters and a strong sense of place.” Also, if time permits and he is willing, we may be able to persuade him to tell us about his book for children, Montana for Kids: The Story of Our State. Montana for Kids is the winner in the “Best Western Storyteller” category of the 2019 Spur Award. Further rave reviews of his work have appeared on the Today Show and in the LA Times, People magazine, Kirkus Review, Publisher’s Weekly, Booklist, and many others. In addition to these books already mentioned, Allen is the author of the novels, Last Year’s River and A Bloom of Bones, as well as a highly influential consideration of the ethics of hunting, A Quiet Place of Violence. With William Kittredge, Jones is an editor of The Best of Montana’s Short Fiction. He is also the author of more than 100 published short stories, articles, essays, and poems. He has worked as a magazine editor, a book editor, and publisher at his own small book house, Bangtail Press. He has appeared on PBS NewsHour as a guest essayist. He lives in Montana with his wife and young son.
