On October 12, beginning at noon, please join us at This House of Books as we host a conversation with Danell Jones and Melbourne Garber. Jones’ internationally-acclaimed An African in Imperial London: The Indomitable Life of A.B.C. Merriman-Labor is the biography of an amazing man born in Africa who moved to London and wrote about it. Jones launched the book in England and presented to an appreciative audience at the British Library in London. Melbourne Garber is Merriman-Labor’s great-nephew! Garber is an engineer living in New Jersey, although he was born in Freetown and much of his family still lives there. Jones and Garber will talk about Merriman-Labor, Sierra Leone, and other topics. This is a unique opportunity to meet and talk with a relative of Merriman-Labor. This event precedes the poetry readings by the High Plains Bookfest nominees in the category of poetry. Since this event takes place over lunchtime, snacks will be available.
