Join us for a free screening of “Awaxaawippíia: The Crow Nation’s Sacred Ties,” an eight-minute documentary film exploring the historic, cultural, and spiritual relationship that the Apsáalooke (Crow people) have to the Crazy Mountains. Awaxaawippíia [pronounced a-wuh-kaw-wah-pee-uh] is the Crow word for the mountain range known in English as the Crazy Mountains. The film looks at why the Crow Tribe is urging the Forest Service to protect the mountain range in the upcoming Custer Gallatin National Forest plan revision. The film is directed by Livingston filmmaker Eric Ian and co-produced by Montana Wilderness Association and Dr. Shane Doyle, a Crow tribal member, educator, and owner of Native Nexus Consulting. A panel discussion with Crow tribal members and educators, including Shane, will follow the screening.
