Larry Groce, who co-founded Mountain Stage in 1983 along with Andy Ridenour and Francis Fisher, was among 60 southerners to receive the distinction. He was recognized for his work with Mountain Stage which now brings live performances by artists from across the country and around the world to over 200 stations each week, including many throughout the south. Mountain Stage is produced by West Virginia Public Broadcasting and distributed by NPR Music.
Groce is the show's host and artistic director, which starts its 35th season January 14 in Morgantown, WV with John Oates, Tyminski, Lilly Hiatt, Danny Barnes and Bil Lepp.
A photo of Larry posing with the magazine at Taylor Books was posted to Instagram and quickly became the show's most popular post on that platform for the entire year.
