More info about the festival

It will be all that jazz on Friday, February 5, at Montana State University Billings when 14 jazz groups from junior high school, high school, and college converge on the Billings campus for a jazz festival

Guest artist is the world-renown Los Angeles trumpeter Wayne Bergeron, who will be sharing his expertise with students and faculty alike,

The festival’s organizer is music faculty member John Roberts.

“In the big band, in our contemporary big band world, there is not a bigger name than Wayne Bergeron. I’m expecting some great educational tips for the directors, the students and myself, especially—and some brilliant high note solos,” said Roberts.

The day for the students will be filled with clinics and sessions. They will get a chance to perform and get immediate feedback for the festival’s clinicians.

The festival concludes Friday night with a gala concert with the MSU-Billings Big band, with Bergeron as a guest performer.

“In the past 3 weeks, the Big Band has probably put in 30 to 35 hours of rehearsal time and the sound great,” commented Roberts. ”This is one of the biggest things they’ve worked on in their lives.”

The concert is 7 p.m. Friday at the Petro Theater on the Billings campus.
