Reaction in Montana and around the world to the Gianforte misdemeanor assault charge has been varied.

California GOP Congressman Duncan Hunter speaking to the press Thursday on Capitol Hill said assaulting a reporter is not appropriate behavior "unless the reporter deserved it," according to a tweet posted by Associated Press reporter Mary Clare Jalonick.

Donald Trump Jr., the head of the NRA, and Republican candidate Greg Gianforte rallied supporters in Butte, Thursday morning, two weeks before voting ends in the special election to decide Montana’s next lone representative in the U.S. House.

When the race started, Democrats saw the May 25 special election as an opportunity for a referendum against President Donald Trump. Donald Trump Jr. will be making his second visit to Montana today, hitting the campaign trail with Greg Gianforte for a series of rallies across Montana. Gianforte is the Republican candidate vying for Montana’s U.S. House seat in the May 25 special election.

The National Democratic party has made its first contribution to Rob Quist's campaign for Montana's House seat in the election that ends May 25. That's according to a story in The Huffington Post. The story says the contribution's size is “in the low six figures."

Donald Trump Jr. is in Montana to campaign and raise money for Republican U.S. House candidate Greg Gianforte. The president’s son is joining the Bozeman software entrepreneur turned political hopeful today and tomorrow to rally supporters on a four town tour of the state, in support for Gianforte’s bid for the U.S. House.

On the day that Republican Candidate for Congress Greg Gianforte announced that Donald Trump Jr. is coming to Montana to help him raise money, his Democratic opponent Rob Quist drew about 300 people to a rally in Bozeman.

Quist held three rallies Tuesday; in Great Falls, Lewistown and Red Lodge. The Bozeman event was Wednesday, where an after-work hour crowd spilled out of the back of MAP Brewing.
