It’s half-way through the eight-day festival of lights, known as Hanukkah. The student Rabbi from  Congregation Beth Aaron shares some of his reflections during this holiday, that began Sunday, against the backdrop of the challenges faced recently by the Jewish community.

MSU Billings Chancellor Dan Edelman says freedom of speech - and safety - are his concerns as the campus deals with unauthorized posters appearing on campus put up by a white nationalist group.

Montana State University Billings Chancellor Dan Edelman said there is no place for hate at MSUB.  The written statement was released Monday afternoon after unauthorized posters from a white nationalist group were found – and taken down - again on campus.

Hate crimes across the country were up 17 percent last year, according to the latest data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation out this week.


This week, a Nazi flag was raised on a flagpole in a public park in Laramie, Wyoming. There are no hate crime laws in Wyoming so it's not a criminal act. Still, police are investigating the incident.

There are specific words, tactics and tools individuals can can use to diffuse racist or bigoted speech, says civil rights strategist and organizer Eric Ward, executive director of Western States Center

Ward is the featured guest at two Martin Luther King, Junior Events in Montana, sponsored by the Montana Human Rights Network.
