Montana’s Republican Congressman Greg Gianforte Friday officially announced his run in the state’s 2020 election for governor.

Montana Attorney General Tim Fox on Thursday announced the members of a new task force that will address missing and murdered indigenous persons throughout the state.

Montanans in Missoula, Billings and Kalispell today joined nationwide protests against abortion bans in southern states.

At the Missoula County Courthouse speakers expressed outrage over legislation in Alabama, Georgia, Ohio and Missouri to a crowd of about 200 people.

Two crime victim advocates were honored by Montana’s top law enforcement officials.  Michele Stewart and Erin Harris were recognized as outstanding advocates of the year for their work helping crime victims, including those on the Crow and Northern Cheyenne Reservations.

Federal Judge Upholds Montana Ban On Robocalls

A U.S. District Judge upheld a Montana law banning most robocalls.  State Attorney General Tim Fox hopes the ruling will deter those businesses that want to target Montanans with targeted political messages each election cycle.

Governor Steve Bullock and Attorney General Tim Fox will convene the first meeting Monday of the advisory group formed to address the impact of the closure of two coal-fired power plants in Colstrip.  This panel will help guide the disbursement of $10 million of economic impact funds provided by the owners of the Colstrip Generating Facility.

Montana’s backlogged sexual assault evidence kits will undergo lab testing beginning this month. Last fall, the state got a $2 million federal grant to fund cataloging and testing of the unsubmitted so-called rape kits. 

Attorney General Tim Fox joined Governor Steve Bullock in Missoula today for a ceremony to sign six bills updating Montana’s sexual assault laws.

They posed with Missoula Democratic Senator Diane Sands, who carried two of the bills, the most prominent of which removes force from the definition of sexual assault.
