The Bitterroot National Forest wants to raise the price to use 14 campgrounds and three cabins. The proposed fees would affect campgrounds in the Stevensville, West Fork and Darby/Sula ranger districts including the Charles Waters Campground, the Magruder Ranger’s House and the Como Lake Campground.
Almost all of the money will go towards operating, improving or maintaining local campgrounds. Fees for most campgrounds that have services like garbage disposal, water and camp hosts will increase to from about $8 to $15. Sites with fewer amenities will cost between $8 and $10. An analysis found that the new fees are comparable to fees for similar, nearby sites.
