The Montana Department of Environmental Quality announced Monday that the agency has awarded grants to increase the number of electric vehicle charging stations throughout the state.

The grants were awarded to four businesses and will fund construction of charging stations along key travel corridors and near entrances to both Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks.

Funding for the grants is from a national civil lawsuit settlement resolving allegations that Volkswagen violated emissions standards under the Clean Air Act. According to the Montana DEQ, Montana received nearly $13 million.
