Montana’s sole U.S. Representative restated his opposition to removing President Donald Trump from office after House Democrats tried to pass a resolution calling on Vice President Mike Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment.

Republican Representative Matt Rosendale in a Monday press release said he stood with Republican colleagues in opposing the resolution.

House Democrats are asking Vice President Mike Pence to declare President Donald Trump unfit to serve out the last few days of his term. Rosendale calls removal attempts “political theater” and accuses Democrats of making “false claims of a national crisis.”

The push for removal comes after Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol last Wednesday following a speech in which the president falsely claimed the election had been stolen from him.

Like Rosendale, Montana’s Republican Senator Steve Daines Monday dismissed impeachment attempts. In a statement, Daines emphasized moving forward toward a peaceful transition of power.

If the appeal to the Vice President ultimately fails when put to a full House vote Tuesday, the House intends to consider impeachment Wednesday. In Rosendale’s Monday statement, he urges Democrats not to move forward with removal efforts. Rosendale was unavailable for further comment.
