Yellowstone National Park’s northern and southern loops are temporarily cut off as crews work to fix a major water main break.

Park officials said Aug. 14 the road between Mammoth Hot Springs and Norris Junction is temporarily closed. Crews are removing asphalt to locate the break in the water main, which provides all potable water to the Mammoth Hot Springs area.

Park officials said in a press release it’s unclear how long the road closure will last.

In the meantime, visitors trying to connect to the northern or southern sections of Yellowstone must use routes outside of the park since the road between Tower Junction and Canyon Village is closed this year due to planned construction.
