As millions of Americans follow stay-at-home orders, some residents of this country are taking their place on the streets. People spotted coyotes in downtown San Francisco and wild turkeys in Boston. In Myrtle Beach, an alligator cruised a shopping center.
MARION LARSON: Many more kinds of wildlife are coming out, taking advantage of the fact that people are not out and about.
RACHEL MARTIN, HOST:
Marion Larson works for the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife.
LARSON: Actually, the wildlife has been there all along. It's not returning. It's just that it's more noticeable because people are spending time at home in their neighborhoods and seeing wild neighbors that they never thought were around.
MARTIN: Wild neighbors. So next time you see a skunk or a coyote walking down the street, pause a moment.
LARSON: A lot of times, it's a great opportunity to see the wild neighbor. And take the opportunity. Enjoy the show.
INSKEEP: Although, it's still a good opportunity, for various reasons, to keep a bit of social distance.
