MSUB names Sunny Day Real Bird to lead the Native American Achievement Center.

Montana State University Billings has hired a new director for its Native American Achievement Center.

Before being named director, Sunny Day Real Bird worked as a middle school teacher in Ronan. She also served as director of Indian Education for the Ronan School District after teaching in Busby, Ashland, Pryor and Oklahoma.

Real Bird, a Crow tribal member, holds master’s degrees in education from Montana State University and the University of Oregon, she earned her bachelor’s degree from MSUB.

Real Bird says she is looking forward to, “connecting with our Native students and working with them to ensure they continue to thrive at MSUB.”

The Native American Achievement Center serves as an advocacy center for American Indian students attending MSUB and City College, while also offering academic and student support.

Real Bird will take over from interim director, Joe McGeshick, on August 18. Reno Charette previously held the position.
