Cohesion Dance Project celebrates 10 years of Shira Greenberg’s Nutcracker on the Rocks in Helena on Saturday, November 30 and Sunday, December 1, 2024 at the Helena Civic Center. Featuring the music of James Brown, Aretha Franklin, The Rolling Stones, Janis Joplin and more, this community based, rock-n-roll rendition of the holiday classic showcases a unique and energetic fusion of dancers and dance styles, along with a roaring Harley Davidson on stage! Leading audiences on a thrilling journey through the decades, Nutcracker on the Rocks artistically blends community dancers with professional visiting guest artists in creative partnerships and energetic collaborations, seamlessly weaving people of all ages and abilities, including those with disabilities, into the fabric of the choreography.

Nutcracker on the Rocks originated in Albuquerque, NM, and was performed there for 20 years. Helena now holds the prestigious honor of being the only location where this innovative production is staged.

The 2024 cast includes nearly 70 community dancers of all ages and abilities performing alongside professional visiting guest artists from across the country. Local lead dancers include Téa Woodland as the Rat Queen and Laura Brown as Marie. Visiting artists returning to the Helena stage are Missoula-based Rebecca White as Madame Drosselmeier and NYC-based Alex Ptelikapich who most recently graced the Grandstreet stage this summer as Race in Newsies!
