Yellowstone National Park will start closing roads to oversnow travel Sunday to allow for spring plowing. Some park services have already been reduced.

Yellowstone will close the road connecting Mammoth Hot Springs to Norris Sunday. Next Tuesday, the roads connecting Norris to Madison and Canyon Village will close, followed by Canyon Village to Fishing Bridge on Mar. 14 and all remaining groomed roads on Mar. 15.

Weather permitting, some roads will reopen mid April.

The road from the park’s North Entrance at Gardiner through Tower Junction to Cooke City is open to vehicles all year.

Yellowstone Monday closed the hotel and cabins, gift shop, ski shop and food services at Mammoth Hot Springs.

The campground, general store, post office, medical clinic and gas station stay open all year.

Park officials say visitors driving to and in the park during the spring should have flexible travel plans and prepare for changing weather conditions, as well as temporary travel restrictions or closures.

Updates are posted on the park’s website. Visitors can also receive Yellowstone road alerts by texting “82190” to 888-777 or call 307-344-2117 for recorded information.
