The Democratic party’s statewide candidates are filtering into the Helena election watch rally as the polls close. Corin Cates-Carney of Montana Public Radio is on site and reports.

CORIN CATES-CARNEY: Secretary of State candidate Monica Lindeen was the first of the Democrats candidates to walk into the ballroom of the Great Northern Hotel in Helena. The current state auditor is facing Republican Corey Stapleton.
DEMOCRAT MONICA LINDEEN: I’ve always been very passionate about our system of democracy. And the idea that every should be treated with respect and it’s through our election system that we are able to have our voice heard.
CORIN CATES-CARNEY: Melissa Romano walked in shortly after. She’s the Democratic candidate facing Elsie Arntzen in the race for Superintendent of Public Instruction.
DEMOCRATIC MELISSA ROMANO: We are one of eight states that does not have public preschool. I talked about that heavily. We need to be investing in our kids and in our schools.
