U.S. House Representative Liz Cheney of Wyoming will retain her number three leadership rank within the party, following calls from fellow Republicans, including Montana’s freshman Representative Matt Rosendale, for her to step down.

In a 145-61 vote by secret ballot Wednesday, House Republicans overwhelmingly rebuffed a rebellion by hard-right conservatives to toss Cheney over her vote last month to impeach then-President Donald Trump.

Cheney has said she does not regret or apologize for her vote. CNN reports Rosendale spoke “loudly and angrily at Cheney” during the closed door GOP conference meeting.

Rosendale said in a statement after the vote “The Conference has spoken, and it’s time for Republicans to unify to take back the majority. I will do my part to achieve that goal.”

In a separate vote Thursday a divided Congress falling closely to along party lines stripped Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia of two committee assignments.

The Associated Press reports it’s an unprecedented punishment for the chamber that reflects Democrats' outrage at the hateful and violent conspiracy theories Greene has helped spread.

Both Cheney and Rosendale opposed the measure.
