Assisted Suicide
Earlier this year, Patrick Matheny, diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gherig's disease, committed suicide. He did it legally under Oregon's Death with Dignity Act. This law, a voter initiative that went into affect two years ago today, allows terminally ill people to request lethal drugs from their doctor. Oregon Public Broadcasting reporter Colin Fogarty spent time with Patrick in the months leading up to his death.
