  • New Yorkers mark the third anniversary of the terrorist attacks with a ceremony at ground zero in lower Manhattan. Mayor Michael Bloomberg addressed the crowd, while family members read from a roster of the dead. Other ceremonies are held across the nation.
  • Former Vermont governor Howard Dean says his second-place finish in the New Hampshire primary indicates he has regained lost ground since his disappointing finish in Iowa.   • The Supreme Court hears arguments on the constitutionality of the Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act. The court had struck down a previous version of the measure on the grounds that it did not allow for doctors to use procedures they thought necessary to protect a woman's health.
  • Phone cables covered in lead are now degrading. It could be seeping into the ground and drinking water supplies.
  • America's No. 2 diplomat has ended his weekend visit to Islamabad, Pakistan. Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte met Saturday with military ruler Pervez Musharraf, telling the general to lift emergency rule and release all political detainees. Musharraf seems to be holding his ground.
  • Activists there have been on the ground working to engage and register Black voters from different walks of life, and are now reflecting on the importance of these efforts ahead of the 2024 elections.
  • More than 300 of the planes, including some of the grounded Max versions, may have flawed parts on their wings. The problem is not considered something that could lead to a crash.
