She is Arapaho and Shoshone (descendant) and previously reported for Wyoming Public Radio on the Wind River Indian Reservation in Riverton, Wyoming where she grew up. Stanger was educated at the University of Wyoming and at Bowing Green State University and got her degrees in American Culture Studies.
