YPR Commenting Guidelines

Yellowstone Public Radio’s social media is an outlet where we can continue the conversation with our listeners beyond our stories and programs. We believe in the power and importance of constructive community dialogue. The following guidelines are intended to build our online community so that we can connect to—and learn from—each other.

In the interest of making our social media a safe, constructive, and educational environment, YPR reserves the right to remove comments, links, and other material that does not promote a constructive dialogue.

1.) Write with civility and respect. If you can’t be polite, don’t post it. Disagree without being disagreeable. Engage points, not personalities; focus on ideas, not motivations. Always avoid name-calling, slander, and obscenities. Messages including hate speech or threatening/harassing content are never acceptable.

2.) Stay on-topic.Sticking to one topic at a time helps us have the best possible discussion.

3.) Promote discussion, not yourself.Commenting for purposes other than sincere conversation disrupts the discussion. YPR’s online community isn’t a place for advertising, promotion, recruiting, campaigning, soliciting, or proselytizing.

Yellowstone Public Radio monitors comments with  the health of our online community in mind and reserves the right to remove any comments that do not meet these standards.

Comments and posts on YPR’s social media pages not generated by YPR staff do not reflect the opinions of Yellowstone Public Radio, its underwriters, or the Board of Directors of the Friends of Yellowstone Public Radio.

Our guidelines are adapted in part from NPR’s Guidelines for Commentingand NHPR's Comment Guidelines
