Terry Cunningham, President of Cottonwood Enterprises, holds a Mask Up Gallatin game card in downtown Bozeman on September 26, 2020.

As Gallatin County experiences its third surge of COVID-19 cases, the county and its partners are encouraging people to continue wearing masks to help slow the virus’s spread, with potential prizes.

Mask Up Gallatin ambassador Laura Cunningham spent a recent afternoon in downtown Bozeman passing out game cards.

Gallatin County health officials say the majority of people in the county are complying with the local mask rule, but they’re concerned anytime they hear about indoor public settings where people are not wearing masks.

Cunningham says the opportunity to win more than 200 prizes is meant to thank people and help smooth out tension between store owners and their customers who don’t always comply.

“It’s not easy to deal with the public with the sometimes contentious mask issue. So we want them to be rewarded, and we want them to have some to reward their customers,” Cunningham said.

Each card has a unique code that the recipient can enter into maskupgallatin.com for an opportunity to win prizes.

Mask Up Gallatin is funded by a business innovation grant through the state, Bozeman Health, Gallatin County and the Bozeman Area Chamber of Commerce. Cottonwood Enterprises, a marketing agency, is implementing the program.

The game runs through Oct. 19.
