Counties are sending mail and absentee ballots to Montanans on Oct. 9.
Ballots can be mailed or returned in person to county elections offices. Many counties that chose to conduct an all mail ballot election also offer alternative drop off locations.
County officials must have ballots in hand by 8 P.M. on Election Day, Nov. 3. Voters are advised to get their ballots in the mail at least one week before that date or else drop them off in person.
Montanans have until Oct. 26 to register for a mail ballot. People can also register to vote up to Election Day, though they’ll have to register and submit their ballots in person after Oct. 26.
Forty five of Montana’s 56 counties are holding the election by mail. Broadwater, Carbon, Chouteau, Fergus, Mineral, Petroleum, Powder River, Powell, Stillwater, Treasure and Wibaux counties are holding a traditional polling place election.
Montanans unsure of their voter registration status can visit myvoterpagemt.com, which also shows whether their county elections office has received their ballot.
