You Can't Take It With You

You Can't Take It With You

In need of a good laugh? The hilarious masterpiece by Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman, You Can’t Take it With You, lights up The Ellen Theatre for six performances, opening Friday, October 22, and running until Sunday, October 29.
Montana TheatreWorks, producers of The Sound of Music and Fiddler on the Roof, has assembled a crackerjack cast for this Pulitzer Prizer winner that is sure to tickle your funny bone and touch your heart. First staged in 1936, the classic comedy has entertained an astounding five revivals, with recent productions being hailed as “Screwball magic!” (The New York Times) and a “Laugh-till-you-cry riot” (The New York Post).
John Hosking, co-founder of the Vigilante Players, is Grandpa, patriarch of the eccentric Vanderhof and Sycamore families, who dabble in snake collecting, xylophone sonatas, ballet, and homemade fireworks. Local favorite Frank Simpson is Mr. Kirby, a successful self-made man of Wall Street, with plans for son Tony to follow in his footsteps. Tony (Phil Taylor), however, is in love with Alice Sycamore (Annabella Joy) and when the two families meet, it’s utter comic chaos. Also in the all-star cast are Rhonda Smith, Ryan Lawrence Flynn, Susan Miller, Tom Watson, Coco Douma, Cornelius Murphy, Ryan Cassavaugh, Cheryl Sheedy, Colton Swibold, Emma Rathe, Kamlin Cox, Lance Steeves, Rachel Mascari, Abigail Oltrogge, and Eric Blomquist.
Tickets for You Can’t Take It With You are $36 and available online at TheEllenTheatre.org, or simply call The Ellen box office at 406-585-5885. The Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30 PM and the two Sunday matinees are at 3 PM. Beer, wine and other refreshments are available in the lobby, and may be taken into the theatre.

Plan a trip to The Ellen and enjoy the humorous, heartfelt, and often outlandish world of You Can’t Take It With You. The New York Times said it best: “A lot of shows can make you laugh. What’s rare is a play that makes you beam from start to finish.”
