Roughly 350 Montanans have received federal funds to cover funeral expenses for loved ones they lost to COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA, is still accepting applications for grants of up to $9,000 per funeral. FEMA has provided about $1.8 million to Montanans out of $1.2 billion it’s distributed nationwide, according to data the agency released this month.

In Wyoming, 217 families received $1.2 million dollars in funding.

Montana has recorded more than 2,400 deaths due to COVID-19, and Wyoming nearly 1,300.
