Highway Construction To Begin Near Glacier Park's West Entrance
Construction on a roughly 26-mile stretch of Highway 2 that passes by Glacier National Park’s western entrance will begin later this month. Locals and tourists should expect delays.
The project runs between Hungry Horse and Stanton Creek and will include road resurfacing, enhanced rumble strips and new guard rails. The Montana Department of Transportation hopes the project will improve safety: The department recorded 357 crashes on this stretch of highway between 2009 and 2019.
Construction will begin on May 10 and is estimated to run to October. The work is weather-dependent, however, and some parts of the project could extend into next summer.
Highway 2 is an extremely busy stretch of road during the tourism season and transportation officials say to expect delays of up to 45 minutes.
