56 Counties: Carbon County

courtesy Sarie and Doug MacKay

On this month's episode of 56 Counties, host Russell Rowland features Carbon County in an interview with Doug and Sarie MacKay.

Doug MacKay was born and raised in Montana, growing up on the family ranch near Roscoe. He followed the path of all his brothers by attending military school, but soon afterward his focus shifted permanently toward introspection and service. He is proud of his contributions to the founding of the Feathered Pipe Ranch near Helena, and finds constant renewal in hiking the Beartooths. Currently retired, he is active in Emergency Medical Services and Search and Rescue.

Sarie MacKay’s roots are in both Montana and upstate New York, where she attended college and majored in communications and art. Spending time in the outdoors has informed all the pathways of her life, and has provided constant inspiration. While working full-time, she wrote two novels about Montana, featuring strong and spirited women. She is now retired and paints images of nature and life in Montana.
