Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks say four illegally killed trophy mule deer bucks were found on private land north of Hardin October 24.

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks is offering a reward for information about four trophy mule deer bucks poached north of Hardin. This is the the most recent in a string of poaching cases in southern Montana.

FWP says the four deer were killed on October 24 and found on private property near the Sarpy Creek Mine in Big Horn County. The poachers removed the head of one deer and left all four carcasses to waste.

The illegal harvests happened two days before general rifle season opened. FWP game wardens believe two perpetrators drove a silver or gray Ford Excursion SUV.

On Tuesday, FWP announced four other poaching cases: a bull elk near Big Timber, two mule deer east of Hamilton and a buck pronghorn antelope north of Billings.

Robert Gibson with FWP says cases of illegal trophy harvests seem to be up this year but he’s unsure whether that’s due to an increase in poaching or if the public is more aware of the issue and reporting it more.

Information about the most recent cases can be reported directly to rangers or by calling 1-800-TIP-MONT. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to a conviction.
