Flathead Lake in northwest Montana's Flathead Valley.

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks is proposing a plan to improve recreational management of the Flathead Lake island properties in northwest Montana.

Recreational use of the islands is steadily increasing, impacting the wildlife habitat on the islands. FWP wants to address other issues tied to increased recreational use, such as human waste, litter and vandalism.

The agency’s proposals for the islands include establishing designated campsites on Bird and Cedar islands, and installing signage and information kiosks on all four islands to inform visitors of their history and regulations.

FWP is also seeking public comments on proposals that balance recreational use and habitat conservation.
