Wildfire In Broadwater County Closes Section Of Highway 12

A wildfire near Townsend in Broadwater County led to the closure of a section of Highway 12 Sunday.

The Deep Creek Canyon Fire was reported at 3:45 p.m. Sunday. According to a Facebook post from the Broadwater County Sheriff's office Sunday afternoon, a section of Highway 12 east was closed at mile marker 18 due to the fire. The sheriff's office announced on Facebook this morning that the Highway 12 east canyon between White Sulphur Springs and Townsend is open to one lane traffic.

A Facebook post from the Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest Sunday night said the fire is threatening some structures.  The size of the fire was reported as 174 acres Sunday. Thirty-five people are assigned to the fire. Air resources are expected to arrive Monday.
