Former Montana Gov. Steve Bullock is taking on a new role outside of public service.
Purdue Pharma announced this week that Bullock has been appointed to oversee the company’s compliance with its voluntary injunction. The injunction is related to the company’s 2019 commitment to refrain from promoting opioids.
In 2020, Purdue Pharma pleaded guilty to charges related to its role in the opioid epidemic.
Bullock will have access to the company’s books, facilities, records and employees to ensure compliance.
Bullock left the governor’s office in January after serving two terms as the executive. He was Montana’s Attorney General for four years before that. Bullock lost the race for a U.S. Senate seat to Republican Sen. Steve Daines in November.
In a news release, Purdue Pharma noted that Bullock worked to curb prescription drug abuse, created the Montana 24/7 sobriety program and the Montana Children’s Justice Court while in office.
