RiverStone Health in Billings gave out more than 1,800 at-home COVID-19 test kits Tuesday at a distribution event at MetraPark.

About an hour into distribution, RiverStone had already given out more than half of the 2,520 tests it had on hand. Emergency response manager Greg Neill said it was less than he was expecting, but thought the cold weather “might be keeping people from coming.”

The last time RiverStone held a test distribution event, supplies ran out after about 15 minutes.

Neill says he’s not sure when the next distribution event will be – health departments across Montana are waiting for more tests from the state. Gov. Greg Gianforte earlier this month announced the purchase of 650,000 rapid COVID tests expected to arrive by the end of January.

The White House today launched COVIDtests.gov, which lets each household order 4 free at-home COVID tests. The United States Postal Service says tests will ship for free in late January.
