Yellowstone National Park announced Wednesday that the park's eastern entrance will open Friday, May 7 — weather permitting.

In a press release, the park says that the East Entrance to Lake Village/Sylvan Pass and from Lake Village to Canyon Village will be available to motorists Friday morning at 8 a.m

The south entrance to the park is expected to open May 14 including the south entrance from West Thumb to Craig Pass. The road from Tower-Roosevelt to Canyon Village will remain closed for the 2021 season.

Park officials say that temporary road closures are possible due to poor driving conditions and park rangers will monitor avalanche conditions for the Sylvan Pass area that still has a significant amount of snow.

Last year, Montana entrances to the park opened June 1 due to the pandemic.
