Montana Democrats plan Rural Listening Tour To Make Up Lost Ground

Montana Democrats met over the weekend in an annual fundraiser and said the party is planning a rural listening tour this year after it took major losses in the last election.

After getting swept in statewide races last year, Democratic party leaders say the listening initiative is an attempt to make up ground in 2022.

“Sure we got shellacked in November. That was terrible. It was awful. Governor. Legislature. It couldn’t have been worse, but it’s an opportunity for us. It’s an opportunity to learn and show who we really are,” said Former U.S. Sen. and Ambassador Max Baucus.

U.S. Sen. Jon Tester, former Gov. Steve Bullock and Democratic National Committee Chair Jaime Harrison and others also spoke during Saturday’s remote Mansfield Metcalf event.

Speakers framed the Montana Democratic Party as inclusive of women, minority populations and LGBTQ residents, with a focus on job creation.
