As COVID is again placing stress on health care facilities, flu cases are also growing. The state health department’s latest update now confirms more than 1,400 cases, and the state as a whole is less vaccinated than last year.
So far there have been 59 reported influenza hospitalizations in Montana.
State health department spokesman Jon Ebelt tells MTPR that two of those cases are the so-called “flurona,” or COVID and influenza coinfections.
Based on the latest data from the National Flu Immunization Survey, approximately 35% of Montana adults received their flu shot by late November. Last flu season 48% of Montanans received their shot.
State health officials say there’s still plenty of time to get a flu shot and urge Montanans to get one as soon as possible.
