This month, 56 Counties turns to Lewis and Clark County for discussions with Bruce Whittenberg and Krys Holmes.
Bruce Whittenberg was the founding Executive Director of Leadership Montana, a statewide effort to develop a sustainable network of leaders who share a commitment to the future of the state, and was the Director of the Center for Business Enterprise at Montana State University Billings. Bruce was publisher of the Helena Independent Record from 1993-1998, and publisher of the Billings Gazette from 1998-2000. His newspaper career spanned 25 years in three states, included National Director of Marketing and Advertising Sales for Lee Enterprises, Inc. in Davenport, Iowa.
Bruce’s public service has included the Board of Directors of Humanities Montana, the Board of Directors of the Parmly Billings Library Foundation and the Board of Directors for the Western Heritage Center and President of the Board of Directors of the Alberta Bair Theater in Billings. He was a member of the Billings Rotary Club from 1998-2011. Currently Bruce serves on the Board of Directors of the Friends of Montana PBS, the steering committee for the Montana Outdoor Hall of Fame and chairs the Board of Directors of the Myrna Loy Center in Helena.
With a background in writing, musical performance, event curation, and arts presenting, Krys Holmes has contributed to the creative voice of Montana for 20 years. She is author of the statewide history textbook, Montana: Stories of the Land, a co-founder of the Montana Center for the Book, Board member of the literary/cultural powerhouse Drumlummon Institute, and has been part of several musical ensembles. She is currently Executive Director of The Myrna Loy, one of the premiere rural art and film houses in The West.
