The mission of the Stillwater Historical Society is to collect, preserve and share the rich history, art and culture of the Stillwater County area, through the Museum of the Beartooths.

Located at 440 E. 5th Avenue North in Columbus, Montana, the museum is more than a just a small-town museum. The Museum of the Beartooths' professional displays lend clarity to local history from early Native cultures to pioneer settlers, from dude ranches to the business of mining. Many of the fascinating displays are donated collections from families from Absarokee, Columbus, Fishtail, Nye, Molt, Park City, Rapelje and Reed Point.

The Museum's ever-changing exhibits enhanced with traveling exhibits, invite visitors to stop by again and again. The Museum features numerous books on local history including “Moccasins, Mining and Montana’s 34 County: A Centennial Celebration of Stillwater County.” A list of books is also available on the website.
