Montana Wildfire Update For August 8, 2021

In Meagher County Sunday an evacuation order was issued and then lifted for residents in the Grassy Mountain area due to the Woods Gulch Fire burning 16 miles northeast of Townsend. A section of Highway 12 was also briefly closed.

As of 6:30 p.m. Sunday, those evacuation orders, which were issued around 5 p.m., were rolled-back to a pre-evacuation warning. Highway 12 was also re-opened.

Residents in the area should be ready to evacuate again if conditions worsen.

A pre-evacuation warning issued Saturday is still in effect for all residents on Ramspeck Lane and Birky Road. Mandatory evacuation orders issued Thursday remain in effect from Gipsy Creek to Big Birch Creek.

A road closure remains in effect at mile marker 7 at Birch Creek Road.

The Red Cross has set up a shelter for evacuees at Trailhead Christian Fellowship Church in Townsend.
